ABOUT US

CIM Capital is an investment company focused on companies that run into difficulties and where financial, but usually also operational reinforcement is needed. CIM Capital has a very hands-on approach and already led several successful restructurings in Belgium. It consists of two separate teams functioning as communicating vessels. Operating from the same headquarters, they leverage on each other’s knowledge and experience.

In 2020, CIM Capital founded the CIM Capital Restruct Fund, a private equity fund investing in companies facing a restructuring or transformation. The fund raised €65 million with institutional and private investors. The fund focusses on companies above €10m in turnover. CCR Fund invests via majority shareholdings – often with co-investors with in-depth sector knowledge.

CIM Ventures provides tailored solution for smaller companies in distress (<€10m in turnover). We are neither consultants nor an investment fund: we are facilitators with a hands-on and operational approach, backed by funding capacity. CIM Ventures invest through own funds as well as a pool of investors, matching the target with our network’s industry experience.

[ENGLISH] Lunch Garden: a new start for a piece of Belgian heritage

In an interview, Karlien Coppens, doctoral assistant at the faculty of economics and business administration at Ghent University and specialized in companies in difficulties, explains how the restart of Lunch Garden by CIM Capital works. She explains the concept of a ‘silent bankruptcy’ and why this approach offers the best opportunities for preserving one of the largest restaurant chains in Belgium.

Preservation of Belgian classics

Since 1966, Lunch Garden has been famous for its affordable Belgian cuisine – from chicory with chicon au gratin to vol-au-vent. CIM Capital, an investment fund specialized in strengthening companies in difficulty, will take over 41 of the 62 restaurants. This means that a large part of the staff remains on board. CIM Capital’s hands-on approach and focus on operational strengthening has already led to several successful restructurings in Belgium, such as Veritas and Neckermann.

Marc Van Hool - Founder CIM Capital
"We enter a company in order to straighten it out financially and through coaching, and to realise a restart. What we certainly do not do is strip a company in difficulty of its assets, as you often see in the Anglo-Saxon world: acquire it and sell it in parts."
Gert De Caluwe - CEO Neckermann Belgium
“As an entrepreneurial spirit it has been a pleasure to work together with CIM. They combine financials skills as well as a pragmatic approach to business. They see and understand opportunities, but judge correctly the degree of complexity. They embrace strategy, but have a great eye for the human component. They facilitate, enable and thereby excel.”
